How do I know when it's actually time to sell a stock on the NGX simulator?

Beginner Investing

I bought some UCAP and Japaulgold shares when I first started practicing on the platform last month, and I've noticed they go up and down every day. Since this isn't real money, I'm trying to use it to learn the discipline of exiting a trade, but I get confused about whether to sell when I make a small profit or hold on longer. How do experienced learners here decide when it is time to let go of a stock?

Omo, exiting is genuinely harder than entering, even on the simulator. What helped me stop guessing is setting a clear plan before I even click buy—like deciding whether I'm day-trading momentum or holding for earnings, so I know my exit target in advance. If the original reason you bought UCAP or Japaulgold has changed, or if the profit reaches your target, take it and don't look back with regret.

Ah, I'm glad you asked this because I've been staring at my own simulator portfolio wondering the exact same thing about UCAP! Since it's just practice money, I've been trying to set little personal rules for myself—like deciding beforehand whether I'm practicing for quick day-to-day trades or holding for the long term—just to see how my emotions react. I'd really love to hear how the more experienced learners here figure out their exit points without second-guessing themselves every time the market dips.

Exit discipline shouldn't be dictated by daily noise, but by whether your initial quantitative thesis—such as a target valuation ratio or a shifting macro tailwind—remains intact. Assets like UCAP, which correlate closely with financial sector liquidity, require different exit metrics than speculative plays like Japaulgold, so consider establishing rigid rules like trailing stop-loss percentages or fundamental P/E ceilings before you trade. Use this simulator as a laboratory to test these predetermined thresholds, ensuring your exits are governed by data rather than the emotional highs and lows of paper profits.
